The FTA website will facilitate the registration procedures for all businesses that are subject to the new taxation. Every taxable person resident of a member state whose value of annual supplies, imports or exports, in the member state exceeds or is expected to exceed the mandatory registration threshold is required to register for VAT.

There are two broad thresholds for registration according to FTA:

  • Mandatory registration threshold is AED 375,000
  • Voluntary registration threshold is at least AED 187,500

Method of calculating threshold is:

  • Total value of supplies made by a taxable person for the previous 12 months; or
  • Total value of supplies of the subsequent 30 days

(Value of exempted supplies will not be considered for computing the annual supplies)

The authority urged the businesses, with an annual turnover of over Dh150 million, to register themselves before October 31, 2017 while businesses with an annual turnover exceeding Dh10 million are allowed to register before November 30, 2017.
